The volunteer nutritionist will work with Lao staff to provide expert consultations for children of all ages, from birth to 15 years of age in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Expertise in management of acute and chronic malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, failure to thrive, and the special nutrition issues of children who are developmental disabled or have chronic illness is important. They must be compassionate, work well with colleagues, and be able to communicate well with both children and their families. Knowledge of Lao-specific nutrition issues is essential.
Primary Responsibilities
• Leading the development and implementation of the nutrition and malnutrition program at LFHC in collaboration with LFHC clinical staff
• Conducting training for LFHC clinical staff
• Evaluating and caring for infants and children in both outpatient and inpatient settings
• Recording the details of the nutritional consultation in the electronic medical records system
• Supporting procurement process for therapeutic foods and formulas in cooperation with administration
• Promoting nutrition education with patients and their families
Education/experience
• Degree in nutrition or food sciences required
• Paediatric experience preferred
• Experience in a low resource setting environment in a similar role preferred
Benefits
This is a volunteer position with a preferred 1 month minimum commitment up to 6+months. A small monthly allowance can be provided to help cover some basic costs such as food & housing for commitments of 2+ months.
