Position Available: Volunteer Laboratory Technician

Position Summary
The Laboratory Manager and/or Technician (LM/LT) will co-ordinate the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. This includes, but is not limited to, haematology, biochemistry, and microbiology.
The LM/LT will supervise and train a team of Lao laboratory technicians and work closely with clinical staff to provide high-quality, compassionate health care. The position is located in Luang Prabang, a charming town in Northern Laos. We are seeking to fill this position immediately.
Qualifications/Experience
- Qualified Laboratory Manager or Technician with up-to-date experience
- Experience in a hospital-based lab setting
- Knowledgeable regarding basic biochemistry, microbiology, and hematology
- Experience with point-of-care testing and phlebotomy
- Additional experience in development of microbiology cultures, handling of TB specimens, or blood banking would be a plus
- Development of lab processes and procedures
- Cross-cultural communication skills and the ability to work independently and be proactive are essential – the role will require ongoing mentoring of local lab staff who are recent graduates with limited work experience
Benefits
This is a stipend volunteer position with a preferred commitment of at least 6 months (and a preference to individuals who can commit to 12 months). A modest monthly stipend will provide plenty to cover housing, food, and basic daily expenses. Assistance with flight costs may also be possible on a case-by-case basis.
